Finding Balance in Boracay with The Fat Lui

“Hi! I’m Lui, also known as The Fat Lui.”
Lui is a content creator based in Boracay, where he creates lifestyle, travel, food, and local experience content across TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram. As a digital nomad, working remotely allows him to collaborate with brands while sharing what everyday life is really like on one of the world’s most beautiful islands.
But the lifestyle was not something he planned from the start.
“I simply wanted a life that felt more aligned with who I wanted to become,” he shares. “During the pandemic, I realized life was too short to keep waiting for the ‘perfect time.’ I took a leap of faith, moved to Boracay, and figured things out along the way.”
He has been living in Boracay since January 2023, and for him, the island has been home ever since.
“Looking back, it became one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
Choosing Boracay as a Base
For Lui, Boracay offered the kind of balance he was looking for.
“Boracay has the perfect balance,” he says. “It has incredible beaches and nature, but it also has reliable infrastructure, plenty of restaurants and cafés, stable internet, and a community that’s welcoming.”
That balance makes it easier for him to enjoy the peaceful island lifestyle without making work difficult.
As a remote worker and content creator, his days are not always the same. Some mornings start with filming content during sunrise or when the beach is less crowded. Other days are spent editing videos, answering emails, negotiating brand collaborations, planning future content, and managing social media.
“I usually work in blocks so I can still enjoy island life without sacrificing productivity,” he shares.
Staying Productive in Paradise
For Lui, living in Boracay full-time comes with its own discipline.
“One challenge is maintaining boundaries,” he says. “When you live somewhere people consider a vacation destination, it’s easy to feel like you should always be out exploring.”
That is why he makes it a point to schedule work first. After that, he rewards himself with beach walks, cafés, or sunsets.
“I remind myself that living in paradise doesn’t mean I’m on vacation every day,” he says. “Boracay is my home, not just my destination. Once work is done, the beach becomes my reward instead of my distraction.”
For remote work, he also knows what matters most in a place to stay.
“Reliable Wi-Fi is non-negotiable,” Lui says. He also values a quiet environment, a comfortable workspace, good lighting for content creation, accessible food options, and spaces where he can relax after work.
“When your accommodation supports both work and rest, everything becomes easier.”
A Quieter Side of Boracay
During his stay at Alta Vista de Boracay, Lui’s first impression was the peaceful atmosphere.
“What immediately stood out was how peaceful it felt,” he says. “It’s away from the busiest parts of the island, so you can really disconnect from the noise while still being close enough to everything you need.”
For him, this calm environment helped make the resort-hotel stand out from other accommodations he has experienced.
“It’s the kind of place where you can focus when you need to work, but also genuinely unwind after a long day,” he shares. “That balance is something I really appreciate.”
The quiet surroundings, reliable internet, comfortable rooms, and relaxing common areas also helped him stay productive during his stay. Having different spaces where he could work or simply recharge helped maintain his creativity.
As a content creator, a peaceful environment plays an important role in his work.
“I spend hours editing, writing, and attending virtual meetings,” he says. “A peaceful environment helps me concentrate, and Alta Vista [de Boracay] provided exactly that.”
Space to Work, Relax, and Find Inspiration
Lui also enjoyed spending time in the resort’s outdoor areas overlooking nature.
“Sometimes simply changing your environment helps you think more creatively,” he says. “The peaceful views made it easy to recharge.”
The property’s location also contributed to his daily routine as a digital nomad. It gave him a nice separation between work and the busier tourist areas.
“I can stay productive during the day, then head out whenever I want to enjoy Boracay without feeling overwhelmed.”
After work, Lui enjoys walking along White Beach during sunset, trying new cafés and restaurants, discovering hidden spots around the island, and simply slowing down.
“Sometimes the best way to recharge is doing nothing while watching the ocean,” he shares.
Boracay Through a Digital Nomad’s Eyes

For Lui, Boracay is no longer just a vacation destination.
“Boracay has evolved beyond being just a vacation destination,” he says. “It’s becoming a place where people can genuinely build a lifestyle.”
With reliable internet, a growing business community, and an environment that encourages balance, he sees Boracay as an excellent place for remote workers who want to combine productivity with quality of life.
Still, he says people should understand what living and working on the island really means.
“Most people think it’s one long vacation,” he says. “In reality, you still have responsibilities, deadlines, meetings, and bills. The difference is that your office happens to be on an island.”
His advice to aspiring digital nomads is to come prepared.
“Don’t come here expecting to escape work,” Lui says. “Come here to build a life you genuinely enjoy. Have a stable source of income, create routines, stay disciplined, and allow yourself to appreciate the island without letting it distract you.”
