The COVID-19 pandemic has grounded travelers all over the world. Your itch for adventure may have only grown over the past few months and you’re probably already making a vacation plan with friends for when the pandemic blows over.

While you’re stuck at home, though, why not discover creative ways to celebrate the vacation memories you already have? Since you’re spending more time indoors, you can discover new ways on how to preserve travel memories through fun do-it-yourself (DIY) projects.

If you were an avid jetsetter before the pandemic hit, then it’s important that you capture travel memories creatively. These projects will help you recall the way things were before COVID-19 and give you something wonderful to look forward to in the future.

Plus, it’s always good to have fun DIY projects at home. Not only will they keep you entertained, but they’ll also help you organize and celebrate your most memorable pre-pandemic experiences.

Dust off those travel-ready gadgets full of photos and get ready to go down memory lane! Check out this list of fun and creative ways on how to preserve your travel memories.

1. Create an online journal/blog.

One easy way to save your memorable experiences is through a travel memories blog. Saving your stories online is a great way to share these experiences with other like-minded jetsetters who may also be missing their own adventures around the world.

Treat your personal blog like a journal that you can share with everyone. Try journaling about your memorable experiences, sharing helpful tips, and inspiring other people with photos and videos of your vacations.

Make the blog fun and personal, too. Upload candid shots of your misadventures with friends and family. Recall all the details of your trips, and share them with your online audience.

You can use classic blog sites like WordPress or Wix to easily get started. Blogging is a great way to preserve your travel memories while waiting for the pandemic to end.

2. Start a vlog series.

If you want to challenge yourself with an even bigger DIY project, then one travel memory idea is to produce your own video blog (vlog) series. If you have many videos of your trips, making a vlog series is a great way to share your adventures with the world.

Collate your videos and stories into one vlog series that you can share online. Relive your most memorable experiences through these videos, and share them on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and other social platforms.

Just make sure to check if you’re allowed to post certain videos online. Some locations you have visited may not allow you to post your videos. If you used a drone to take videos and photos, double-check the drone policies of those locations; so that you don’t unknowingly break any rule.

Also, make sure to check with your friends and family if it’s okay for you to tell certain stories in your vlogs. They might want you to leave out some of the wilder stories of your fun-filled video series.

3. Create a DIY scrapbook.

Not too tech-savvy? Then try putting together a DIY scrapbook instead of blogging or vlogging. Collect your favorite memorabilia from your trips in one scrapbook that you can personalize.

Print out polaroids of your trips, and arrange them in chronological order in your scrapbook. Write about your favorite stories from these photos for that personalized feel. You can even put tickets, maps, receipts, and other travel guide essentials in the scrapbook to sum up your memorable experience.

Scrapbooking lets you be as creative and as hands-on as possible with your adventures. Let your imagination run wild with this simple DIY project while you’re stuck at home because of COVID-19.

4. Start a travel memory box.

A memory box is a lovely way to preserve memorabilia from your best vacations. Generally, a memory box is an enclosed glass box you can use to display objects. If you want, you can simply use a picture frame to put your precious travel photo collection on display.

You can store anything in a memory box, as long as it fits. From trinkets to pins, to polaroids, to plane tickets, you can organize your memorabilia into a pretty collage in the memory box. This way, you’ll have a visual reminder of your favorite adventures, pre-pandemic.

5. Organize your travel photo book.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If you’re a photography buff, then a photo book may be the best way for you to capture your travel memories and share your stories with other people.

All you need is an empty photo album and some time. Choose and collate the photographs you took that best describe your experiences. Look online for creative ideas on how to make those memories last; so that your photo book is as personal to you as possible.

6. Do your own keepsake collection.

If you have a lot of keepsakes lying around from previous adventures around the world, then you might want to organize them or put them on display. Putting them together in a keepsake collection is a great way to organize your keepsakes while celebrating your beloved vacation adventures.

If you've collected magnets from different countries, why not stick them on your fridge in the order of when you visited those places. If you collected keychains, instead, how about making a keychain cabinet or display to show your collection off.

Putting your collection on display is a lovely way to remind you of the great experiences you had before the pandemic. You’ll be reminded of how fun your vacations were, and you’ll get excited about the trips you’ll get to go on after the COVID-19 crisis ends.

7. Create a travel pin map.

One super unique way to capture travel memories is to mark your experiences on a map. It’s a simple yet charming idea to celebrate your adventures around the world. It’s also easy for you to put this pin map on display at home.

Find a bare wall in your room or condo and hang up a corkboard with a nice-looking map on it. Start marking your trips to different locations with push pins, and put notes beside these pins that explain why these places are important to you.

You can even update your pin map with new locations once the pandemic is over. Make it your personal goal to fill up the map with as many pins and notes as possible. It’ll give you something exciting to look forward to after these stressful past few months.

It’s not fun to stay indoors when all you want to do is to go out and have fun, but it’s important to follow travel safety guides; so that you stay safe during this pandemic. Not only is staying at home for your own good, but it’s for the good of everyone else, too.

Besides, being stuck indoors means you have a lot of time to reflect on your memorable pre-pandemic experiences. This crisis can’t ruin those fantastic experiences of yours, after all. You can easily celebrate your beloved adventures by turning them into scrapbooks, vlogs, photo albums, and many more.

Keep these experiences of yours alive throughout this COVID-19 crisis. They’ll help you appreciate the past, and look forward to the future. Once this pandemic is over, you’ll get to enjoy all your vacation plans and go travel the world, again.

You have so many travel destinations to look forward to after this pandemic. Get excited about your future plans with friends and family when you preserve travel memories through these creative DIY projects.
